Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S9 Speakers 'A Major Improvement'

The two stereo speakers found on the Galaxy S9 are “a major improvement,” according to one source who claims to have tested a pre-production version of Samsung’s upcoming Android flagship equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip. The person took to Reddit earlier this week to answer some questions about the device, implying the smartphone was procured from a source in the U.S. retail industry who was also briefed on it by Samsung so as to be ready to answer customer questions during the Galaxy S9’s pre-order period. Besides confirming that the device will feature dual stereo speakers, the insider claims the audio setup of the device will be Dolby-branded, suggesting the Dolby Atmos support Samsung added to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus with its Android 8.0 Oreo update will also be part of its next high-end product(s).

The software running on the upcoming handset shouldn’t debut any glaringly obvious changes, whereas the look of the device is also largely the same as the Galaxy S8’s aesthetic, save for fingerprint reader that’s now been rotated and repositioned to sit beneath the smartphone’s camera horizontally, according to the same report. While some previous CAD renders suggested the Galaxy S9 will have shallower display edges than the Galaxy S8 lineup, the source didn’t notice any difference between the degree of curvature between the two, though he said the overall package has slightly less rounded corners, essentially describing a hybrid between the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8. A physical Bixby key will still be part of the package, as will a 3.5mm audio jack, whereas the virtual home key will once again be pressure-sensitive, though it’s presently unclear whether the ability to track resistance will also be added to the other two digital system buttons.

The animated emoji won’t be a direct copy of Apple’s Animoji but more of a blend between that solution and Snapchat’s Bitmoji, the source said, adding that those who want to use the functionality will be prompted to create their own digital avatar. The single-camera setup of the device can shoot 4K video at 30 frames per second, FHD clips at 240fps, and HD recordings at 480fps, the insider claims, adding that low-light imaging capabilities of the phablet have been noticeably improved compared to Samsung’s 2017 flagships.
