Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Arrives Oct. 12

Activision today confirmed that the next Call of Duty title will be Black Ops 4.

Mark your calendars: This year's addition to the franchise is slated to launch globally on Friday, Oct. 12 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Though rumors of a Nintendo Switch version have been swirling, Activision didn't say anything about the hybrid gaming system in its announcement.

"In what represents a game-changing experience, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will revolutionize the top-selling series in Call of Duty history," Activision teased in a news release.

Activision and developer Treyarch plan to host a community reveal event on May 17. In the meantime, you can check out the 33-second teaser trailer below.

"Forget what you know," the trailer teases.

At this point, that's all the official information we have about the game. As PCMag's sister site IGN reports, rumors have indicated that "Black Ops 4 will tone down its sci-fi elements in favor of a 'more grounded feeling' as a response to the reception of Infinite Warfare in 2016."

Meanwhile, the third entry in Treyarch's incredibly popular spin-off series, Black Ops 3, earned a "good" rating in PCMag's 2015 review, nabbing props for its online multiplayer modes, "entertaining, varied campaign missions," and "fun cybernetic abilities."

"For better or worse, Call of Duty: Black Ops III is exactly the straightforward big-budget shooter you expect, offering entertaining gunplay, a ridiculous (but fun) campaign, and deep online multiplayer with a bevy of game modes," we wrote.
