Fans were treated to some great news this week, with more Nintendo Switch games being announced for this year.
The biggest of the lot was Super Smash Bros, which fans are hoping will be a new game, rather than a port from Wii U.
We already know that Masahiro Sakurai, director of the Super Smash Bros. franchise, is involved in this new title.
Sakurai has confirmed he has been involved in the new Super Smash project from early on, a good sign for all who love the series.
“Right now we’re just at the stage where we revealed this game, but I’ve been working on this game in silence day after day,” Sakurai posted on Twitter.
“Please wait until we can release more information, or until release day!”
From its first reveal during the March Nintendo Direct, we’ve only been provided a title for the new game and even that appears temporary.
Without the usual ‘for Nintendo Switch’ being tagged on the end, it would appear that the new brawler will be getting a subtitle.
No one knows exactly when we’ll get the next big update on Super Smash Bros, although we can predict it will make an appearance at E3 2018.
Fans are also hopeful that another Nintendo Direct event could be held soon, only this one will have a specific title as its focus.
Nintendo games news concerning the upcoming Pokemon Switch RPG release could be next for the Direct treatment, following the big announcements we just got for Super Smash Bros.
This latest rumour doesn’t come from an online source or rumour, but is instead based on new evidence found by fans.
It all stems from Nintendo updating their official Direct webpages.
The online Direct archive for previous broadcasts now has a new empty spot, which suggests something new is being cooked up.
This is what has been seen in the past when Nintendo have been working on a new announcement.
What makes fans think it may have something to do with the upcoming Pokemon RPG is that a previous Pokemon Direct broadcast has been removed from the page.
Resetera User Galava and Pokefan are the ones who has been gathering the details and sharing it online.
“I've done some digging around, and a similar situation has happened before,” Pokefan wrote.
“Pokemon Direct that revealed Sun and Moon was removed on 10th May 2017, a month later a new Pokemon Direct happened on 6th June 2017, showcasing Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon and Pokken port.
“This could indicate a Pokemon Direct is coming in the near future.”
As noted above, there are no reports currently indicating that Nintendo are planning a new Direct event before E3 2018.
It’s worth taking this latest information with a pinch of salt for now, although there is precedent for Nintendo following a big Direct, with another, smaller event.
The latest reports suggest that Nintendo would like to release their new Pokemon RPG in late 2018, although a delay until early 2019 is possible.
