Fable 4 - When Will We Hear More?
March 31st - Although we can't say for certain, it seems pretty certain that Microsoft and Playground Games' upcoming open-world title (largely assumed to be a Fable title) will be a 2019 release at the very earliest - we haven't even gotten official confirmation about its title or genre yet.
Because of this, it seems even more unlikely that we'll learn anything more about the game anytime soon.
Sure, we could learn the odd tidbit or hear a rumour here to there, but any tangible news about the game is likely only going to come from a big industry event.
Microsoft has, of course, mentioned it promises this E3 showcase will be a 'big one', and that the publisher will be showing a lot of new information at the E3 conference, so it's highly likely we'll hear more about the title come to life there... that's if it doesn't leak first: Microsoft's presser has leaked in its entirety before E3 has even kicked off before.
Of course, it might be even later in the year if Microsoft chooses to hold off and save any further news until or Gamescom or a similar event later in 2018.

NEW Xbox One Games rumoured to be in development
Fable 4 - Overview
Platform: Xbox One
Publisher: Microsoft
Developer: PlayGround Studios (heavily rumoured)
Genre: RPG
Release date: TBD
Fable 4 - What is it?
Fable 4 is the rumoured sequel to the much-loved Fable series, originally developed by Microsoft, that's appeared on the original Xbox and Xbox 360.
Eurogamer has stated that Playground Games is likely to be making a Fable-themed open-world action role-playing game as a potentially spiritual successor to Fable 3.
The powers that be at Microsoft, Eurogamer said, were inspired to create a single-player experience by the success of Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Zero Dawn.
So does that mean you can expect to play more action-oriented gameplay from this title? It's likely.
Fable 4 - Release Date
Do not expect to see the game release soon.
Fable 4 has not even been announced by Microsoft yet - in fact, any suggestion about what PlayGround Games could be working on has actively been shut down by Microsoft, so it would seem the company is pretty far from a formal announcement.
If anything, the best thing you could hope for is a brief look at the game at E3 and perhaps a release date for at some point in 2019.
Fable 4 - What we know so far
Forza Horizon developer Playground Games is working on a new title. We also know that their second studio team last year hired talent from Ninja Theory, Rockstar North, and DICE to work on its next project.
Whilst the project is widely rumoured to be an open-world RPG - perhaps even a new instalment in the Fable franchise, if some reports are to be believed - the finer details of the game have yet to be confirmed outside of speculation, rumour and Eurogamer "sources" which are never disclosed.
If true, the franchise’s reboot comes nearly two years after the closure of Lionhead Studios, which created and developed the Fable series.
Lionhead closed its doors in April of 2016 after 20 years with its final project, a free-to-play multiplayer game called Fable Legends, never releasing.
This means the rumoured fourth game in the series will be the first developed away from Lionhead.
Fable 4 - Peter Molyneux weighs in
22cans designer Peter Molyneux, who created Microsoft's fantasy role-playing series, has recently shared with IGN what he'd like to see from the upcoming title.
"The Fable story hinted at a dramatic time before Fable 1 when the Guild was founded, this would be a perfect setting for Fable 4," Molyneux said, explaining that "the land of Albion would be much more primitive, the magic much more attuned to nature, the combat much more brutal."
Molyneux noted that the new game is prime ground for players to explore the founding of the universe's Guild collective.
The creator also wants to see "brutal, visceral and fluid combat system that left permanent scars. Weapons like short swords, long swords, daggers, spears, long bows and crossbows all having a there own combat feel and specialties."
Fable 4 - Playground comments
In an interview with Daily Star Online, creative director Ralph Fulton confirmed that Xbox One X will be the "lead platform" for Playground's next project.
"Ease of development in the Xbox One X's make up provides a really great development platform," Fulton said, "not just for that console but also the whole family of devices and even PC."
Fulton goes on to explain that in using the X as a development platform, all Xbox One family versions will see improvement.
"[Xbox consoles] have always been good consoles to work on" Fulton said, "but in terms of the power the Xbox One X has on your desk, it's a fantastic bit of kit for developers."
Fable 4 - Ex-Lionhead comments
An ex-Lionhead developer has explained why he thinks other studios would struggle to capture Fable's unique flavour in a recent interview.
The developer, Adam Langridge, was lead gameplay programmer at Lionhead whilst the studio was owned by Microsoft, from the period after 2006 until the studio was closed in 2016.
Langridge stated to The Daily Star that he worked on the combat of the Fable games - so he knows the series pretty well.
"We feel such a personal connection to that series," Langridge states in the interview.
"There are such a large number of key people - creative director Dene Carter, for example - whose vision crafted that franchise, and without those key people, you're going to have a very hard time recreating the same kind of Fable.
"Their personalities permeated the games, you know? You could feel them in there like names through a stick of rock.
"It'd be very hard for another studio to make a Fable game like the ones we know now, but that could be seen as me dropping the gauntlet! Have a go! Go for it!"
