Facebook Really Wants People to Use Stories

Facebook made the Stories preview atop News Feed more visual

Facebook is testing out three ways to encourage users to embrace its Stories feature.

The tweaks being experimented with are:

  • Making “Your Story” the default option when users begin creating posts. If they choose not to create a Story, they can opt for a regular post, specific groups or Messenger before sharing their content.
  • Making the Stories preview atop News Feed more visual by adding large preview tiles behind smaller profile pictures of the users who created them.

  • Adding a small camera icon and a photo gallery featuring users’ most recent photos to their post creation area for users who have granted access to their cameras and camera rolls. Facebook said users in the test group can: Tap on a photo from their photo gallery to add it to their post, or tap on the camera icon to expand the camera, and then tap on the camera button to create a new photo or video.

A Facebook spokesperson said, “The way people share and connect is changing; it’s quickly becoming more real-time and visual. We’re testing new creative tools to bring pictures and videos to life and introducing easier ways to find and share Stories.”
