Google’s annual developer conference is back. Google I/O will be held from Tuesday, May 8, through Thursday, May 10, at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, Calif.
There’s really only one way to watch it live: On the Google I/O homepage.
For the past five years, Google I/O has come after Facebook’s own developer conference, F8. But this year feels a little different. Facebook has had to deal with the fallout from the Cambridge Analytica scandal, and all eyes are on any online entity that deals in data. Google has for the most part avoided the wrath of both the public and Congress for Russian interference during the 2016 presidential election.
And while Facebook stuck to a message of “community” during F8, Google is expected to focus more on tech products, including AI, its smart home devices and the future of Android.
This year, it will be interesting to see how Google positions itself as tech companies come under more and more scrutiny for the role they play in democracy and the way in which people digitally connect.
Here’s Google’s preview of the event.
