Nintendo Starts Selling Switch Without a Dock

If you go out and buy a Nintendo Switch today, you'll get a box containing the Switch console, two Joy-Cons, a Joy-Con grip, Switch Dock, power adapter, HDMI cable, and Joy-Con straps. However, if you're shopping in Japan there's now two Switch hardware options, with the second dropping the dock, grip, and cables.

As Engadget reports, it's called the Switch Second Unit Set and it's aimed at anyone who wants a second Switch and therefore doesn't need all the same kit. If you've already got the Switch Dock hooked up, then you don't need another and the cables it uses. In return for less hardware, Nintendo is shaving $45 off the price of this set.

When you consider a replacement official dock costs $60, a Joy-Con grip is $15, the AC adapter is $30, and a HDMI cable is around $6, the Second Unit Set doesn't look like good value for money. Nintendo is removing around $110 worth of value from the box and only offering a $45 discount. I know those are retail prices, but still, the discount could be more generous.

I suspect if Nintendo brings the Second Unit Set to the US and Europe it will be a hard sell without a bigger discount. I'd rather pay for the original Switch bundle again and have a spare dock, grip, and cables in case anything from my first Switch stopped working. How about you?
