Google has updated its augmented reality Measure app to support the company’s ARCore standard. The update opens up the app to more devices, including the Pixel 2, Galaxy S9, and the G7 ThinQ, as noted by 9to5Google. (Check Google’s full list here.)
Unlike the original version of Measure, which was limited to only work with the few Project Tango phones out there, version 2.0 of the app is far more open. The updated app also comes with improved visuals and controls to make it easier to measure whatever you point your phone at.
The news comes on the heels of Apple announcing its own Measure app earlier this month at WWDC, which is set to launch with iOS 12. It will similarly grant users the ability to measure objects simply by pointing their phone’s camera at them.
At last, tech companies have delivered on the utopian future that augmented reality tech had once merely hinted at.
