Epic has done something sneaky where they’re able to hide a few of their Fortnite challenges from the eyes of dataminers until hours before release. That happened this week where a “TBD” challenge was revealed to be the return of gnomes as a world object to find. And here's where you'll find seven hungry gnomes to complete the season 4, week 8 challenge. Read on.
We last saw gnomes in Fortnite season 3 as a challenge, and there were seven you had to find back then as well. That time, however, those were “hidden gnomes” and these are now “hungry gnomes,” as presumably they’ve grown quite peckish with no one locating them for a full season now.

There are more than seven total gnomes on the map, and you will probably run into them through the normal course of play, but if you want to race out and complete the challenge immediately, then this is the guide for you. And no, you cannot use an old map of hidden gnomes to find the location of the hungry gnomes, as they’ve moved. Don’t believe the YouTubers and fansites that are trying to copy paste the old locations to get a guide out quickly.
The gnomes this time still have a creepy voice alerting you to their location. These say something like “yummy yummy yummy, munch, munch, munch” when you get close, so they’re going to be hard to miss if you’re in proximity to them. I don’t know if this is true of every gnome on the map, but the ones I’ve seen so far appear to be hiding near food, hence the “hungry” qualifier. Near a refrigerator, in a grocery store, so that should help narrow down your search. Literally all seven I’ve found were by some sort of food source, so you’re going to want to look by those if you don’t want to head to the ones I’m about to list here.
Again, there are more than seven locations for the gnomes, but here are seven specific ones I’ve seen so far for you to find. Below the map, you’ll find more detailed instructions.

Lucky Landing: In the south of Lucky Landing in a kitchen next to a refrigerator.
Retail Row: In the north side of Retail Row in the corner of the grocery store.
Pleasant Park: In the north east side of Pleasant Park in the corner of a gas station near food shelves.
Tilted Towers: The dead center of Tilted Towers where there is a little food station near “Trump Tower”
Tomato Town: Inside the big tomato building in Tomato Town wedged between the sink and the wall
The Soccer Field: Not a “named” area of the map, but in the soccer field’s taco stand between Tilted and Snobby you’ll find a gnome
Warehouses by Flush Factory: Again, not in Flush Factory, but in the warehouse cluster to the north east of it. In a building in the north west portion you’ll find a gnome near a drink fridge and a sink.
I will try to add more as I come across them, but if you can locate these seven, you should be good to go for the challenge itself. If you haven’t complete seven weeks for the blockbuster skin yet, week 8 appears to be a good one, so I would definitely get to gnome hunting. Look around food sources, listen for that creepy voice, and you’ll be a Fortnite gnome master in no time.
