Galaxy J2 Core Is Official, Samsung's First Android Go Phone

Samsung has announced its very first Android Go smartphone, the Galaxy J2 Core. This smartphone got announced in India, and it actually looks like an entry-level phone, which it is. The device sports rather thick bezels, while it is made out of metal. Samsung’s logo is included both on the phone’s back and below its display, while a fingerprint scanner is not a part of the package at all. The device’s power / lock key sits on the right, while its volume rocker buttons can be found on the left. The back side of this phone can be removed, and the same goes for its battery.

The Galaxy J2 Core comes with a single camera on the back, while an LED flash is located right below it. This smartphone comes with Android Go version of Android 8.1 Oreo OS, which essentially means that it comes with a lightweight version of Android, and special ‘Go’ apps that Google released especially for this version of Android OS. Samsung has included some apps on this phone as well, it seems, and the device comes with a 5-inch 960 x 540 TFT display. Samsung’s Exynos 7570 64-bit quad-core processor fuels the Galaxy J2 Core, while the phone comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. The Galaxy J2 Core also offers two SIM card slots, while a 2,600mAh battery is included on the inside as well. A 3.5mm headphone jack is a part of the package, and so is an FM Radio.

On the back of the Galaxy J2 Core, you’ll find an 8-megapixel camera (f/2.2 aperture), while a 5-megapixel camera (f/2.2 aperture) is included on the phone’s front side. The device comes with Bluetooth 4.2 LE, Wi-Fi b/g/n, and it supports 4G LTE connectivity (with VoLTE). The Galaxy J2 Core measures 143.4 x 72.1 x 8.9mm, while it weighs 154 grams. The device comes in a Gold color only, at least for the time being, and it goes on sale in Malaysia and India starting today. The device will arrive to a number of new markets in the near future, though its price tag is still unknown.
