The Apple keynote is set for September 12, as announced yesterday when the invites were sent to press and VIPS.
Apple Watch Series 4, it's claimed.9to5Mac
However, no sooner had Apple revealed its plans but 9to5Mac, published leaks of what the next iPhones will look like and, moments later, a picture of the next Apple Watch.
It's a remarkable image and, if true, as 9to5Mac insist it is, signals a gorgeous new Watch that's a clear evolution of current models but even more attractive.
Incidentally, an Apple Watch leak is pretty much unprecedented. Perhaps that's in part because previous models have looked so similar to each other that a leak wouldn't have been easily spotted so they went unnoticed, but this is certainly a leak on a bigger scale than before.
Let's go through what the image reveals...
What the next Apple Watch may look like: a visualization that preceded the latest leak.9to5Mac
Bigger Display
This was the feature which has been heavily trailed in leaks and reports from various sources. The idea is that it has a way bigger display – as much as a 15% increase – in a same-size Watch.
This is achieved by extending the screen much closer to the edge than now.
In the image, it appears that the corner elements do sit nearer to the curve of the glass than now.
Assuming the Watch continues to be made in two sizes, 38mm and 42mm, it'll be interesting to see if there's a drift towards the smaller Watch now it has a bigger display.

More Content
For me, just as striking as the edge-to-edge display is the new Watch face the image shows. There's so much detail on it! The exercise rings, a Music shortcut, the date, a picture of the planet (a Weather shortcut, maybe?) all sit at the centre and then four more complications ring the clock.
Not to mention the next appointment details which sit in the top half of the clock circle.
Not every Watch face will be as busy, but this is a clear indication of just how much data you can squeeze into a small oblong screen and still be communicable.
It's a masterpiece of software design.

A New Element
There's a tiny hole between the Digital Crown and Side button. What is it? I don't know, though some have guessed it's a microphone. That's certainly a possibility, though it looks quite big to me, if it is.
Which, of course, leads to the enticing possibility that it looks big because the scale of the Watch is slightly different, in other words, the new Watch may be slimmer than the current one.

Digital Crown and Side Button
While we're looking at the side of the Watch, check out the Side Button. Is it me, or is it sitting a little more flush to the case than before?
More importantly, the Digital Crown also seems to be sitting a little lower in the case, though it could be the angle of the photo.
There's a rumor that the next Digital Crown will not physically press inwards as it does now, instead offering haptic feedback to give the impression of movement.
And instead of the red centre to the Crown, indicating an LTE model, a delicate red ring runs round the top of the Crown. This also contributes to the slimmer, lighter look to the Watch.
Watch Bands
The strap on the image looks similar to the current models, matching the rumor that though the screen is bigger, the Watch size hasn't changed and therefore current straps will still be compatible. Certainly, the strap seems to match the thickness of regular Watch straps. This is good news.
Metal Finish
This could be the aluminum finish Watch but to my eyes it looks a little too shiny. Which makes me think Apple may be offering more colors in the stainless steel version – rose gold alongside the regular stainless steel and space gray finishes.
Why not? Apple already carefully color-matches the stainless steel band around the iPhone X, so to do the same on the stainless steel makes sense.
All very exciting and we'll know every detail in just a few days now…
