In a new video today, DICE detailed numerous aspects of upcoming shooter Battlefield V, laying out the game's multiplayer, single-player and post-launch content.
Once again, the studio made mention of the upcoming Battle Royale mode, finally giving it a name and a handful of scant details.
"Firestorm" is Battlefield V's new Battle Royale mode and pits 16 teams of 4 players against one another in a fight to see who can come out on top. The mode takes place on the series' largest map ever and features the various hallmarks of the franchise, from vehicles to destructible environments.
It looks as though squad mode will be the only mode in Firestorm, though that could always change in the future. While the trailer offers very little insight into how it plays, judging by the brief footage we can make an educated guess that the game's version of Fortnite's "storm" will be a literal firestorm or, to borrow from Johnny Cash, a ring of fire.
I fell into a burning ring of fire, I went down down down but the flames went higher.
And it burned. That ring of fire.

EA and DICE still seem bizarrely shy about actually discussing this mode or showing it off. Honestly the entire video today should have been devoted to that with some real footage of it in action.
The developer barely mentioned it when they announced the game and practically brushed it under the rug during E3 this June. Now it's going to lead every headline about this video but we're still left with only a vague sense of what to expect.
Anyways, here's the new This Is Battlefield 5 video which, by the way, EA and DICE probably should have led with. Ever since the game's puzzling debut trailer I've been confused about the tone they're shooting for and what kind of game this will be.
This video is straightforward, informative and makes Battlefield 5 look good. We're not left wondering if this is some bombastic semi-steampunk outing; it's just straight-up WWII.
Though, to be brutally honest, it looks too much like Battlefield 1 in too many ways. I really wish they'd opted for a more modern historical setting like Vietnam or the Middle East. C'est la vie.
