In the next few weeks, players will be able to join in Bethesda’s closed beta for the upcoming survival-RPG Fallout 76, just ahead of the game’s official launch next month. While the game is set have dedicated servers with players joining the world of West Virginia alongside their friends, some have been wondering what options they’ll have in terms of exploration, namely access to other vaults located around the world map.
The question about accessing other player’s vault was brought up in an interview between Comicbook and a few of the game’s developers. While entering other vaults won’t be an option at the time of Fallout 76‘s launch this November, the team gave a broad reasoning for the exclusion.
“There are technically other vaults, but you won’t be able to get to them. They’re locked, and for a reason.”
The last part of the answer could be what eventually leads into the post-launch support Bethesda has planned for Fallout 76. Recently, Bethesda’s VP of Public Relations Pete Hines made the statement that the game’s support is expected to last “forever.” The push for continuous content being added could mean for potential multiplayer DLC expansions, or possibly something comparable to raids in Destiny. Whether those plans, should they come to fruition, result in some sort of competitive or cooperative game modes with other player groups being added is yet to be seen.
As for now, players still have much to look forward to when the upcoming beta launches later this month, with Xbox One users getting access a week before all other platforms. Bethesda and Hines’ claims for endless content following the game’s release is apparent, as players will have access to the entire world of Fallout 76 when the beta drops in just a few weeks.
Fallout 76 was officially revealed just before E3 this year. While the newest game in the series is pulling away from the traditional single-player open-world experience it’s know for, game director Todd Howard has made it clear that future Fallout games will not follow the same format.
As well as providing continued support for Fallout 76, Bethesda Game Studios will be hard at work for the next few years. The studio officially announced both Project Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 at its E3 press conference this year, and also confirmed recently that a third mainline Wolfenstein game is in production from developer Machine Games.
Fallout 76 launches on November 14th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
