We still don't know the exact day that Red Dead Online will be released, but fans are clinging tightly to the late-November announcement. While we wait, forgive us if we have conversations about the many possibilities this tantalizing expansion pack could bring to our gaming lives.
Here are 10 things I hope you can do in Rockstar's upcoming online multiplayer open world.
Customize Your Cowboy or Girl
Rockstar announced months ago that players would be able to customize their characters, but let's hope the customizations offer some sort of face sculpting with a variety of heights, weights, and shapes. The more diverse the Red Dead Online community is, the better.
Use Trains as Transportation
There are ways to fast travel in Red Dead Redemption 2, though not as evident as they should be. Simply using trains as a way to move from one area to the next should be a possibility–even if you have to be there when it's scheduled.
Establish Gangs
It's impossible not to compare RDR2 and RDO to Grand Theft Auto V. In fact; I'm sure Rockstar wants you to...to some degree. The ability to establish factions, gangs, partners in crime or justice is a must. If you can also give every person in your gang some matching clothing, it would be especially cool.
Choose to Play Singularly or With a Group
Not everyone will be gung-ho about teaming up with friends. Some gamers may go in and out of the mood for that kind of experience. Hopefully, RDO gives you the freedom to have fun with the game as an individual or within a group.
Have Multiple Characters
One of the best things about NBA 2K's career mode is that it gives you the option to create and develop multiple characters. It would be a blast if you could have three or four characters in the RDO world. Perhaps one of cowboy/girl is an outlaw and the other a sheriff or marshall. This would allow you to enjoy the game from different perspectives.
Age
Based on all the interviews and reports I've read and seen from Rockstar, the development team wants to make RDO a very human experience. Having your characters age is one way to ensure a sense of humanity is present. A physical transformation and even a few trait-related changes would be fun as you become a gray beard.
Play Cops And Outlaws
Mini-games and modes need to be a part of the RDO feature set from the outset, or via an update and DLC. Playing Cops and Outlaws should be a no-brainer in something of a Team Deathmatch format. There should be rewards and money earned from these modes that can be used to upgrade your character in the open world.
Interact With NPC's
Please Rockstar, don't fall into the same trap that is currently plaguing Fallout 76. Don't do away with the NPC's. Gamers need them to give the open world life and as a means to add some variety to your interactions. The more meaningful interactions with NPC's the better.
Own Houses and Ranches
Owning real estate is essential in GTA V Online, and it should be important in RDO. Ranches and houses set up across the open world would make travel, reloading and replenishing your character's energy and supplies much more comfortable. Also, it helps to drive an emphasis on stacking financial resources to build.
Maintain a Reputation of Infamy, Honor or Something in Between
Players should be able to choose who they are in the RDO world. Will you be a criminal, lawman or woman or something in between? No matter the choice, there should be a way to indicate everyone's in-game character. That would create some interesting and fun situations.
As soon as concrete information is available for the release of RDO, I'll be sharing it and getting ready for virtual life in the old west.
