Heard good things about Destiny 2? Want to give it a roll? Own a capable PC that meets these minimum requirements? It's your lucky day. Blizzard is running its annual Blizzcon celebration right now, and Destiny 2 is not only part of the Activision Blizzard family, it launches through Battle.net. As such it gets a little Blizzcon love and is currently free to download from now until November 18.
To get it, all you need to do is download the install client from here, which will run through battle.net. It won't matter if you already own it, of course, but then again I suppose everything that you have already paid for is by its very nature free. You'll own the base game outright if you download it before November 18, so might as well get moving on it.
This is a good move: the pricing model on Destiny 2 and it's three expansions is already pretty wacky, and it can be very hard for someone who isn't intimately familiar with the game to even understand how to go about buying the base game short of picking up a physical disc, which nobody does. For someone who knows nothing about the game and sort of wants to play it can be a weird minefield to just start out. This is not how you want to introduce people to a games as service title.
But Destiny 2 is a great game, with some of the best shooter mechanics on the market and a steadily improving long-term economy. The base game has an excellent campaign with plenty of fun to be had, and it serves as an incredible introductory taste to an experience that many will surely want to keep going with. It won't take long for players to see Warlocks blasting enemies with lightning lasers or popping them with bows in the crucible for people to want to pay the extra money it takes to upgrade to the current Forsaken expansion, which is thankfully excellent.
Frankly, I think that the base game of Destiny 2 should be free all the time, on all platforms, but a limited run like this isn't such a bad place to start. Jump in, the water is addictive and somewhat problematic.
