Fallout 76 Players to Receive Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics Free - Game Rant

Despite having been named one of the best-selling titles for November 2018, there’s no doubt that Fallout 76 has had an incredibly rough launch. Whether it’s due to the near-broken state in which it was released or the controversy surrounding replacement canvas bags for Collector’s Edition owners, many fans have been displeased to say the least–it even made our list of the top 10 most disappointing games of 2018. Nevertheless, it looks as if Bethesda’s apology tour continues, as the company recently revealed players will get the Fallout Classic Collection on PC for free.

According to Bethesda, anyone who logged into the full release of Fallout 76 during the course of 2018–be they console or PC players–will be eligible to receive the aforementioned collection for personal computers, which includes Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of the Steel. The publisher and developer stated that fans should expect the offer to go live at some point in early January 2019. However, it stopped just short of explaining exactly when and how the games will be distributed.

For those unaware, the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the Fallout Classic Collection on Steam originally runs for $20, but thanks to the savings to be had in the digital distribution platform’s Winter Sale for 2018, anyone who doesn’t already own the compendium can buy it right now at 70% off for $6. With this being the case, many may liken this freebie to Bethesda’s previous offer of $5 worth of free Atoms to early adopters who felt they deserved recompense following a drastic price cut the game received shortly after its launch.

Needless to say, it will be interesting to see just how the Fallout 76 community as a whole will respond to Bethesda’s free gift of the Fallout Classic Collection, especially since some PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players may not have an adequate PC–if one at all–needed to play the titles. Sure, the compendium’s specs aren’t demanding, but there’s always the chance that some simply prefer console gaming to playing on the PC, which would make this offer an ineffective incentive for those fans to continue engaging with the Fallout brand.

Fallout 76 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
