A great deal is known about Samsung’s heavily redesigned and very expensive Galaxy S10 range. But one model, arguably the most exciting and most affordable, had remained a mystery. Until now…
Ever prolific, ever mysterious industry insider Ice Universe has just lifted the lid on the Galaxy S10 Lite and (like the iPhone XR) it looks like the model most customers will want to buy. This is why.
Yes, the Galaxy S10 Lite looks almost identical to its most expensive stablemates and the result is a design which greatly resembles Apple’s 2020 iPhone plans but a year earlier and for a fraction of the cost.
Furthermore, you should trust Ice Universe. Despite working under anonymity, the leaker has a proven track record having successfully leaked design details of the Galaxy S9 (details), Galaxy Note 9 (details) and iPhone XR (details) long before their release.
So what are the Galaxy S10 Lite compromises?
Compared to the premium Galaxy S10 models, the Lite has the same primary rear camera but misses out on a triple array (wide-angle + 2x optical zoom) and it has a single front camera, but that means a smaller cut-out (see below). Meanwhile, the Galaxy S10 Lite in-display fingerprint reader doesn’t use the same cutting-edge ultrasonic technology and it will also have a smaller display (5.8-inches Vs 6.1 to 6.7-inches), but that is likely to be seen as a benefit by many.
The Galaxy S10 Lite also lacks a curved Edge display, but its flat screen won’t warp of images and video and it boosts durability because cases can fully cover its sides. There’s a great deal to like here.
Of course, it could be a different story in 2020 when Samsung’s Under Panel Sensors bring truly bezel-less, notch-less (and even) punch hole-less designs but in 2019 the Galaxy S10 Lite looks like the smart option to me.
Furthermore, the entire Galaxy S10 range will launch earlier than ever before, so you won’t have to wait long to see if Lite truly is right…
