Mario Kart Tour delayed to summer 2019 - Polygon

Mario Kart Tour, Nintendo’s next planned smartphone game, will launch sometime this summer, the company revealed Friday as part of its latest quarterly earnings report. Originally scheduled to make it onto devices before the end of this fiscal year — i.e., by March 31 — the mobile version of Mario Kart requires extra development time, according to Nintendo.

“In the smart-device business, Mario Kart Tour was scheduled to be released this fiscal year, but in order to improve quality of the application and expand the content offerings after launch, the release date has been move to summer 2019,” Nintendo wrote to investors.

Beyond a logo and release window announced last January — exactly one year ago today, in fact — Nintendo has not provided any further details about Mario Kart Tour. It remains unclear what kind of content to expect from the mobile racing game, but perhaps Nintendo will say more when it holds an in-person briefing for investors this week.

Meanwhile, the company is committed to its existing slate of mobile games. Those include Dragalia Lost, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Fire Emblem Heroes, and Super Mario Run. Nintendo’s first stab at smartphone gaming, the cutesy social network Miitomo, shut down operations last May.
