Apple unveils new products in Chicago
Apple usually drops new products in the San Francisco Bay Area, but the tech giant may debut some new toys in Chicago Tuesday. Many expect to see new, cheaper iPads and possibly Mac laptops at Apple’s education-focused special event at Lane Tech College Prep High School. Apple is looking to boost falling tablet sales in the education market where it faces stiff competition from Google’s Chromebook. In December, Apple also announced plans to team up with the city of Chicago to help teach coding to the area's nearly 500,000 students using Apple's programming language Swift.
Decision expected on charges in Alton Sterling death
Louisiana’s attorney general plans to meet with Alton Sterling's relatives Tuesday to inform them whether his office will charge either of the two officers involved in the deadly struggle, according to family lawyers. The expected announcement comes nearly two years after Sterling was shot and killed during a struggle with Baton Rouge police officers outside a convenience store where the 37-year-old black man was selling homemade CDs. Two cellphone videos of the shooting quickly spread on social media, leading to protests at which nearly 200 people were arrested. Last May, the Justice Department ruled out federal criminal charges in the case and determined that the officers didn't "willfully" violate Sterling's civil rights even though the officers' "techniques" could be criticized.
New-car reveals get rolling at New York Auto Show
Cadillac, Volkswagen, Audi and Mini are among the first automakers set to reveal new vehicles Tuesday night in events tied to the New York Auto Show. The glitzy annual event serves as a platform for the world’s leading automakers to debut shimmering new models. Expect more and more crossover vehicles as customers continue to lose interest in passenger cars, choosing roomier rides instead. Here are seven sexy new cars and SUVs making their debut.
Classic sitcom 'Roseanne' returns from the dead
ABC gives its classic sitcom Roseanne a new look starting Tuesday (8 ET/PT), 30 years after its debut. For nine seasons, Roseanne broke new ground with its portrayal of a working-class family struggling to get by. Now, the show returns with original couple Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) and Dan (John Goodman) — although Dan is no longer dead, in an undoing of the series finale. The premiere leans heavily on politics, which unfortunately results in "unbearable arguments using stilted buzzwords," says USA TODAY's Kelly Lawler. If Roseanne doesn't scratch your nostalgia itch, there are plenty more revivals of TV classics this year.
