Google has announced winners of 2018 Google Play Awards, and we’re looking at winners in nine categories here. Google says that the listed applications have not only proved “to deliver delightful experiences to fans”, but also have “larger positive impact in their communities”. The first category that Google listed on its website is “Standout Well-Being App”, and the winner in that category is ‘Simple Habit’, a meditation app which is aimed to help people reduce stress, improve focus, sleep better, relax faster, and so on. This category basically looks at apps that empower people to live the best version of their lives possible.
Be My Eyes app is the second winner Google announced, and this app won in the “Best Accessibility Experience” category. This category was looking at apps that enable device interaction in a way that serves people with disabilities or special needs, and the Be My Eyes app is aimed at helping blind people. As far as “Best Social Impact” category is concerned, ‘Khan Academy’ app won. This category’s goal was to choose an app that creates a positive impact in communities around the world, and the Khan Academy is basically an educational app which lets you learn pretty much anything, as there’s tons of content available through it. ‘Old Man’s Journey’ is the “Standout Indie” app that Google chose, and that is a game, in case you were wondering. In the “Best Community Building Game” category, Google chose the ‘Episode’ app, which is basically a game that lets you “live your stories”, it lets you make choices which alter the course of the game, and the aforementioned category is actually here to find games that do their best to connect gamers, encourage social interaction, and so on.
The ‘BBC Earth: Life in VR’ app won in the “Best AR or VR Experience” category, while India’s ‘Flipkart’ actually managed to win in the “Standout Build for Billions Experience” category. This category focuses on apps or games with optimized experience, localization, and culturalization for emerging markets. ‘Canva’ application managed to win in the “Standout Startup” category, and that app lets you create various designs for work, school, and so on. And last, but not least, Google’s “Best Breakthrough Hit” category, Small Giant Games’ ‘Empires & Puzzles’ app managed to win in that category, a rather popular puzzle / RPG game.
