Samsung Leak Suddenly Reveals New Galaxy's Nasty Surprise

While the future of Samsung’s folding Galaxy F is in some doubt, the future looks extremely bright for the company’s 10th anniversary Galaxy S10 and its long list of radical upgrades. But now there appears to be another very good reason to buy it: because it might be the last chance you get to own a Samsung with a much-loved feature…

A new report from popular Korean tech site ETNews, states Samsung is seriously considering removing the 3.5mm headphone jack from all phones after the Galaxy S10. And the logic behind this is unlikely to appease fans.

"The USB-C port will be left, and a separate conversion jack will be provided for 3.5mm earphone users,” explains ETNews’ source.

ETNews goes on to say that Samsung’s desire to keep its phones thin and light, while also integrating new features like an in-display fingerprint reader, is the expected motivation. It also cites the rise of wireless earphones and it is notable that Samsung has made a concerted push into wireless earphones itself since purchasing audio company Harman for $8BN in 2017.

The move also makes sense.

While Samsung has been proud to advertise its continued support of the 3.5mm jack, it is now almost alone in the providing one. In fact, OnePlus - the other headphone jack champion - has already announced its next phone (the OnePlus 6T) will remove the jack so its space can be used for an in-display fingerprint reader.

Of course, if ETNews is correct, the big loser for Samsung fans would be next year’s Galaxy Note 10. With the Note range long promoted as Do-It-All devices, this is a strange place for Samsung to start but it would also rip-off the Band-Aid.

After all, if the Galaxy Note 10 loses the headphone jack then clearly, all hope is lost for future Samsung phones - including the now very delayed Galaxy F.

Needless to say, at this early stage, there’s more than enough time for Samsung’s plans to change. But for those still questioning whether they should upgrade to the all-singing, all-dancing Galaxy S10, I suspect many of you now have your answer…
